So next question in the list of questions; Will I like Counselling?
Again that is a tough question to answer. From the feedback I have received from my clients, they have all gained something out of it and many have said that they felt really comfortable, even in the first sessions, which they didn't expect.
I think often in life, things are what we make them and depend a lot on how we choose to see them. Will we view life with a "glass half full" or a "glass half empty" mentality? So when you come to counselling, if you are determined that it is not going to be likable and you are just doing it, to be done with it, then maybe you wont enjoy it.
But I am a big believer that the journey to the destination is often just as important, if not more so. So therefore, I think seeing as we want to always be moving forward, then we may as well take time to enjoy the journey. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it can be painful to look at things of the past or a challenge to change deep rooted things, or hard to see the hope for the future, but if we can learn to embrace the challenges and know that they don't have to overcome them, because we have the power to overcome them.
Why not give it a go.

So the next question about counselling; Is it something I should try?
Well that's a hard one to answer. If you are asking this questions because you think the issue you are facing seems small and insignificant to you, when you compare it to something else someone else might be facing, then maybe it is just the thing you need.
There are so many different forms of counselling and of course lots of different counsellors, so it is important that you find a counsellor that you feel comfortable with. At the same time, it is normal for many people to feel a somewhat anxious before the first session, so don't think that means you should not continue through with it.
Should you try it? Well maybe the very fact that you are asking yourself that questions means it would be worth trying. No matter how big or small the issue, just even taking the first step to admit you need help working through the issue or finding a solution or setting an achievable goal, may be the very thing that sets you up for success. Don't underestimate the power of talking things over, because often in that, you will discover things you never realised you knew.
So is counselling something you should try, why not give it a go and find out.
If you have other questions then feel free to ask me.

Some of you may be wondering. So what is counselling? Is it something I should try? Will I like it? What should I expect? What if I don't want to share something with the counsellor? What if I find I don't really like the counsellor? How long are the sessions? Will the counsellor understand what I am talking about?...………….And maybe a lot more questions.
Let me try and answer just one Question today and then I will endeavour to answer more over the coming days to help you get a better idea about, what counselling is all about.
So the first question. What is Counselling? Well that is a big questions. Because counselling will vary quite depending on who you see.
But in a nutshell counselling is a form of therapy, in which a client comes with an issue, a goal, a problem, a challenge, a dream, or something of some kind that they want to work on. This may be a past issue, a hurt, mental health, loss/grief, relationship issues, communication issues, anxiety, depression, wanting to set goals for the future, study or many other things. Then as a counsellor I use skillful questioning to help you, the client explore the issue/goals and work set goals for the counselling and then work through the issue to help you deal with the past, plan for the future and achieve your dreams.
I have a particular passion for working with people to help them discover who they are, realise their potential and achieve their dreams. I apply the AIFC model and CBT throughout most of my therapy, looking at things like family history, hurts, resentment, guilt, communication, relationship issues, forgiveness and much more, but for each client the initial assessment, along with the clients goals, which is looked at over at least the first couple of sessions will determine the plan and type of therapy to be conducted.
Each client is different and so sessions are tailored accordingly. The first session is free and is a chance for you to see what its all about and ask any questions or have any concerns about the counselling process addressed.
As we explore issues/goals, you the client will be encouraged to come up with solutions and discover the changes you can make, to achieve your chosen goals, whatever they may be.
If after reading this you are still not sure what counselling is about or you think you want counselling but are unsure about meeting a new person, then feel free to send me a p.m. I am happy to message you or speak with you over the phone to answer any questions you may have.
Have a lovely day.
P.S. maybe this picture represents how some of you feel and counselling may be a way to untangle some of the issues, so you can move forward.
