So I was lying down looking up at the sky. It was late in the evening and the clouds were grey, with the prospect of rain very high. But then I looked up and I saw a tree, in fact multiple trees stretching out above me and I got to thinking do I see the things around me for what they really are? I could have complained that this tree was in fact blocking my view, it was in my road. Then I got to thinking what if the tree was in fact not there to cause me an issue but to shelter me when it rains?
I wonder if some of those things going on in your life are not in fact designed to destroy you, but in stead to protect you, make you stronger and prepare you for your future. Maybe what is blocking you from the view of the black clouds is actually going to be the thing that keeps you dryer when it rains.
I wonder how different our world would be if we learned to look at obstacles in life, as chance to grow and learn and develop in character and strength, rather than as something to take us out and destroy us.
How do you view your life? Are you viewing it through a lens of disappointment, hurt, discouragement, rejection..... or are you viewing it through the lens of faith, hope, opportunity and a future that is yours to live and live well. Are you going to take the opportunities that come your way and seize each day and make it your best day yet. Why not. We can go from strength to strength, glory to glory, so why not make each day better than the last. Its not about what happens in the day, its about your attitude and who you are walking with.

You know that saying "peeling back the layers" or "like peeling an onion". To some people when they hear the first maybe they think it is a bad thing, maybe you even think of exposing something you have tried to keep undercover and not allow anyone to see or the second one; maybe you think of something that hurts, or makes you cry? Maybe it would even make you look imperfect.
Well the other day I saw this tree and marvelled at how beautiful it looked. It was far from perfect, but it was perfectly beautiful. It had so many layers and colours showing. It even had some bumps and some other bits where the next layer was starting to be exposed. I got to wondering if this tree had not shed its layers, it could never have grown bigger, it could never have had the reach that it had, because it would never have been able to break the skin of its smaller self and in fact it may not have even broken the skin of the original seed open, if it was afraid to show what was inside to come out.
I wonder if sometimes we hold stuff inside that needs to in fact be let out. What if that very thing you are holding in side, if it was dealt with and healed, so there was no-longer a wound but just a scar. And what if that scar, that mark of you having gone through some stuff and having come out the other side was the answer to someone else's prayer? What if your victory scar, was someone else's miracle?
Layers, they can be painful at times to expose, but I challenge you to allow yourself to expose what is underneath in a safe and healthy environment. I'm not suggesting you take a huge layer off all at once, but instead prayerfully and carefully allow a layer at a time to be exposed. Take time to see the layers for what they are. Beautifully imperfect. You are indeed a masterpiece and so it's time you saw yourself as one.
Don't look at the layers as something to be scared of, or to shrink back from, but instead as something that can indeed been an adventure of growth.

Have you ever thought about the saying "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence". Well seeing as own animals, I find that they sometimes seem to think this is the case, but most often when they get to the other side, they realise that the grass on the other side in fact tastes the same as on their side of the fence and in-fact now they haven't got any water and all their friends are on the other side and when it rains they cant get to their shelter and all in all the grass that seemed greener on that side, is in fact now greener on the other side, only problem is they don't remember how they got out there and so cant work out how to go back.
I wonder how many of us are a bit like the animals described above? Do we always compare what we have to what someone else has or our life to someone else's life? The thing is you were made to live your life not someone else's and chances are that what you see is just the green, just the good bits and if you were to see what they had to go through to get to where they are now, maybe you wouldn't actually want it. The second photo shows what it actually looked like on the other side of the fence.
Maybe it's time we stopped looking at the other side of the fence and wishing we had that, but instead looked at what is on our side of the fence and work out what we need to do to get to where we want to be. Maybe it's time we stopped wishing we were living our friends life or that celebrities life, and instead realised that you are the answer to someone's prayer and that each of us have a choice to live. We have a choice to live the life we have and live it to the full or get to the end wishing we had lived it, instead of wishing we were living someone else's.
