Are you someone who choses to blend in or stand out? Someone who is a leader or a follower?
You know you can't say one is better than the other, because we need both. If we were all leaders, in the same areas, we would probably clash heads. But at the same time, if none of us stepped up as leaders, we would all be like lost goats without someone to follow.
Sometimes there is season in our lives for us to be leaders in certain areas too. For example a mum and a dad may step up in their leadership in different areas when they become parents. While someone at a new workplace may need to learn to follow leadership.
So given that we all have gifts to lead in certain situations, and also the need to be followers in others, although some of us may stick to one or the other of these most of the times, sometimes we may need to be challenged to step out of the norm, out of our comfort zone, so we can grow.
Some of you might wonder how you would ever step out from where you are, little lone become a leader in a scenario or allow yourself to step back and learn from someone else; to follow. I wonder if the best place to start looking at this, might be to look at who we have in our life, we are all influenced by people around us, by those we look up to and also by those who have places of authority and influence on us.
So my question to you, is who is in your herd? Are the people in your herd disrupting the peace all the time? Are they people who encourage you and spur you on for more? Encourage you and call you higher? Do they call out the gifts within you and challenge you to let go of the hurt and grow through the trials?
Sometimes as painful as it is, we need to either make sure we are following the right leader, or we might need to take a step of faith and be a leader?
If you're a leader, but don't know it, the example you are setting may not be the one you want to set, so maybe it's time to live intentionally, because life will go on and we can live it haphazardly or we can live with intention and purpose.
Be intentional. Intentional in love, in honour, in respect, in honesty, in what you listen to, what you believe, in who you allow to influence you, in who you follow and the example you set as a leader in your sphere.
Go change the world, your world, one person at a time.

So I was walking down the river the other day. Think you've probably worked out by now, that this is not an unusual occurrence for me. But at one point I stopped and was sitting on a seat and looking at the reflection in the water. I got to thinking about reflections and reality. Reality has the trees right way up, roots planted in the ground and leaves towards the sky, while the reflection has an appearance of something that is upside down and maybe even two trees with their "tops" touching each other. The reflection looked beautiful, but if I didn't know what it was a reflection of, I might get confused and not actually see it for what it was.
I wonder how many of us are looking at the reflection of something in our lives, rather than the truth of the reality? Or how many of us are reflecting the behaviour of another person, or even taking on the attitudes of another?
I wonder how life would be different, if we chose to look at the reflections through the lenses of having seen the real thing, rather than looking at the real thing through the lenses of the reflection? And I also wonder what would happen if we chose to be our true selves and make our own reflection, based on who we are, rather than reflecting someone else.
What if we lived our lives, to the best of our ability and didn't compare them to anyone else, but instead discovered the beauty of who we are and then let the light in us reflect that.

Love. Its a word we throw around for so many uses. We love our dinner, we love our dog, we love that hat we just cant live without and then we love our children, our parents and our spouses. I would think it would be a fair assumption to say that for most of us all those things are not quite the same. The English language doesn't quite do the word justice. But anyway, that's not what i'm writing about today. I was walking along the river the other day and saw this sunset, it was so stunning and really the photo doesn't do it justice. At the time i was thinking about the beauty of it and about the saying that "red in the evening is a shepherds delight", but writing this now, I am challenged by the thought that sometimes things may be said and we may get hurt by them and we may even look back on a situation and not see it the same as it actually was.
But what if we were to look at things with a different perspective? What if we looked at things not with the intention to blame or to see what it wasn't, but instead to look at what was with the beauty and expectation of a better tomorrow, because when we can use yesterdays hurts and today's mistakes, as learning for tomorrows challenges, then maybe just maybe the way we live will be a whole lot different. What if we took the tools of yesterday and used them to create the future we dream of? What if our focus was on the beauty, on what we have and on what the future holds, rather than on what we don't have and what we wish we had done or said differently. You can't change yesterday or even what's gone of today, but you can create your tomorrow.

Just because something may have the appearance of being weak doesn't mean that it is. I was going for my walk the other day and saw this spider web. At the time, I just took a photo because I thought that looks really well made, but that was the extent of my thinking. Then as I started writing this post I got to thinking how something could have the appearance of being well put together, yet look week at the same time. However when examined with care, one can see that a web has been carefully constructed for a purpose and that behind the seeming lack of strength in the web, is what I believe has been said to be the strength of steel for the size that the web is. So next time you are feeling week and like your life is a "mess" remember that you are stronger than you know and that through the mess can come a beautiful story of how you were able to overcome the odds.

So have you got a list of things you think would be fun to try, but are too scared to try for fear of "messing it up"? Something I always thought was cool was seeing detailed photos, so the other day while I was having quiet time, I took this photo on my phone, which doesn't always take the best photos. But I think this photo captures the essence of what's in it very well.
Sometimes we need to take a look not just at the big picture, but enjoy the detail of the smaller moments that make up the big memories. And sometimes we need to see the beauty of the green, new life that is around us, to take a moment to treasure the beauty of creation and even take a moment to consider what we are creating ourselves.
Are we creating a life of beauty of negativity? Where's your focus at?

So today I was spending some quiet time praying as I do each day, but this time I went to a different place. I had been walking along the river for a while, when got to the point where another river joined it. I had been walking up stream, so really it was two rivers becoming one, but from the direction I was walking it looked as though it was one river becoming two.
It got me thinking as I came to this fork in the river. When we are faced with a decision and both of them look the same on the surface, then how do we know which one to take?
Do we have values in place that we live by, which we wont compromise on when faced with a decision?
Do we have a vision or direction in which we are heading, a goal for our life or a dream we want to see take place? Are we making choices that would help or hinder this?
Do you have a faith and therefore someone to turn to, to ask for wisdom? Where is the first place you run to? Do you run away and have a pity party, or do you run to your friends, or do you run to God and his word? Where do you run?
So I wonder if we know where we are going and we know what we won't compromise on and we know who we are following, then I wonder, but won't we then have the wisdom we need when we ask, to make the right decision on which road to take. Don't choose the road because it looks like the one that everyone else has taken, because most often the road least traveled is the one to be taken.
Now that's something to think about.
If you are unsure where your going, then maybe it's time to set yourself some goals and look at what your values are, so you can stand by them when you are faced with a decision to make.
