Beauty in the Clouds,
Today is another amazing chance to recognise the beauty that is in the world around you. It is so sad to see that so many people don’t recognise what a blessed country they live in.
A country where there is clean water, where we are safe, where we have jobs available, where we can be free, yet protected by the law, where we can enjoy a walk along the beach alone with no fear, where please and thank you are the norm and where a layback, give it a go attitude is what its all about.
Mates, especially in the tough time, no matter your income, race or religion, where we are more united than we are divided. Yes, we could focus on the issues, but what if each one of us said thanks to someone today and celebrated the great country I call home, Australia and maybe by doing so, we would make it even greater.
Just Before the Dawn,
Have you ever got lost in wondering why it seems to be so dark, so bleak and dreary?
And then found yourself running down a rabbit warren of destructive thoughts. Well, what about changing it around? What if you recognised that the darkest hour comes just before the dawn and that the sun always rises again to great a new day.
So instead of focusing on what you are in the middle of right now, learn to sleep peacefully through it, knowing that the sun will rise soon and the morning will bring with it new opportunities, light, warmth and hope.
Because even on the coldest day the temperature still rises to wake us. So lets learn to sleep peacefully, lay our troubles down before we sleep and not carry them into the new day.
Purple the Colour of Royalty,
What a wonderous sky. So stunningly beautiful and different. So uniquely purple. Yes, we often see yellow and orange and red and maybe even some pink, but such a vivid purple like this is maybe a bit more, rare. Yet, it is not out of place. It is still just as beautiful as every one of those other colours. Maybe you feel a bit like you are purple and everyone else is yellow, red, orange or even pink, but you, you’re purple.
You feel different, like you don’t quite fit in. Well today would you take a moment to ponder the beauty of the sky and realise that just as there are a million combinations in the sky, so there are people and you are beautiful the way you are. In fact, the bible tells us that as his children we are chosen and royalty. So maybe it’s time to embrace your royalness.
Oh, What Grandeur,
Have you ever been to one of those big old buildings and you feel breathless just looking at the craftsmanship and how much effort it must have taken to build such a work of art all those years ago?
It’s great that you love a good piece of art, but did you ever stop to ponder how much more valuable you are and how much more effort and design must have gone into even just one miraculous cell in your very being and you have a lot more than one of those in you.
What about the blood that flows through your veins or the very skin on your fingers that is uniquely yours?
What beauty, what design.
When You Ponder What Do You See?
Sometimes it we find ourselves pondering on our life and what has gone before, but I wonder do we ever stop to celebrate it? Do we ever think about the challenges not just as obstacles, but as things we have overcome? When was the last time that you stopped to look forward?
To have a bigger vision for the future? Yes, there may be some water to cross, and there may be some valleys to traverse, but ultimately if we look up, we see that ever day there is a new day and new hope on the horizon.
Let’s make a plan this year to be a people who don’t let the water or the valley stop us, but the hope of tomorrow and the one above stir us to believe for even greater.
A City on a Hill,
We may have heard it said before, that a city on a hill cannot be hidden. For those of us who are Christians or who have read any of the bible, we would recognise this as a verse from the bible, but today I want to challenge those of us who have heard it a hundred times and those of us who have never heard it before. Would we be a people who would be like a city on a hill?
Would we be a someone who does not hide, but who shines.
We all have a choice in life, but the life that is in us, is the light that will come out of us.
What is in you? What needs to change in order for others to see that light shine out of you? We are told that the word of the lord is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path and that Jesus is that light. I wonder, do you have the light in you today? Have you invited him to live in your heart and shine through you?
There is Nothing Quite Like Light,
Light, it pierces the darkness, it breaks the dawn, it offers hope. Even the darkest space comes alight when a light is shone in it. What would happen if you allowed a bit of light to get into your heart and into those painful places? What would happen if you allowed the light to shine in the dark closet? Would it actually set you free? Because the bible tells us that truth sets us free, I wonder if that is the case here too?
What would happen if you didn’t have to stand on guard all the time of that closet that you don’t what anyone else to know is there? Would that mean your mind was free to go elsewhere or even to find more time to be there for friends and family?

How many of you remember the wow moments of your life? For some of you those moments are ones like this picture, they are ones of wonder and awe at the beauty and the splendour. While for others of you they are moments of wow, how can this be happening to me? I wonder if it is time to take a fresh look at those moments, for some it will be a chance to celebrate, while for others the thought of going through any of that mess and dealing with it is overwhelming. Just like this picture dealing with our past often has many dimensions, so it can be helpful to have someone else like a qualified counsellor to help you work through it, in a safe environment.
But don’t let those moments lock you up for the rest of your life, make a choice to deal with them at the right time in a safe place.
Who Made This Mess?
It can be easy to look at a photo like this and focus in on the negative, who broke the tree; how did it break? We can get to wondering was it on purpose, did the wind do it? Was the tree harmed in the process? But you see, I think the beautiful bird is seemingly oblivious to the possible issues with the tree. It looks like the bird it quite happily perched there and is maybe even able to find some insects that it could not had the tree not been broken.
I say all this to say, maybe we need to stop looking at our own life and thinking it is so bad and only seeing the hurt or comparing ourselves to someone else. Maybe it is time realise that just like this bird, there are people who are better off because we are in their life and even chose to be vulnerable with them in a positive way.
Take time to reflect on the beauty and the blessing not harbour on about the lack and brokenness, because maybe just maybe that brokenness will one day be a blessing for someone else, if we learn to work through it ourselves.
Do You See That?
When I look at this picture, I see two Nuns and a fence and a beautiful ocean. But when someone else looks at it they might see an impossible fortress and two big bollards, and an impassable ocean.
Well perspective can be reprogrammed, because often our perspective is based on what we have been through and what we believe, which is also often based on the former. So instead of seeing life as impassable, what if we were to look at it like someone who does parkour, who would see it as an opportunity to roll over, to jump on top of and to overcome. Let’s live with an overcomer mentality, rather than an overcome mentality.
